๐ Ezetimibe localises at the brush border of the small intestine, where it inhibits the absorption of cholesterol from the diet.
- ๐ฉบ Lipid-lowering agent often used as second-line to statins.
- ๐ซ Blocks cholesterol uptake in the gut.
Indications
- ๐ Used with statins to reduce hypercholesterolaemia.
- ๐ง Can be given alone if statins are contraindicated or not tolerated.
- ๐ Adult dose: Ezetimibe 10 mg once daily.
Interactions
- โ When combined with a statin, may reduce cholesterol concentrations by an additional 20%.
Side Effects
- ๐ Generally well tolerated and better tolerated than bile acid sequestrants.
- Occasional GI upset, fatigue, or headaches may occur.
