Aerobic or facultative anaerobic, making it resilient in varied environments.
๐ฌ Characteristics
๐ฆ Gram-positive cocci in clusters (โgrape-likeโ appearance).
๐งช Catalase positive โ differentiates from streptococci.
โช Non-haemolytic on blood agar (colonies usually white, non-pigmented).
๐งซ Produces a slime layer (biofilm) โ key virulence factor, enabling adhesion to prosthetic material.
๐ Novobiocin sensitive โ distinguishes from S. saprophyticus (resistant).
๐ Source
Normal commensal of the skin flora and mucous membranes.
Harmless in most healthy individuals but opportunistic in hospital/ITU settings.
โ ๏ธ Pathogenicity
