- ๐ Interferon ฮฒ-1a and ฮฒ-1b are glycoprotein cytokines used as disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) in MS.
- Reduce relapse frequency and slow disability progression in relapsingโremitting MS (RRMS).
- Formulations include: Avonex, Rebif, Betaferon, Extavia.

- ๐ Inhibits viral DNA synthesis and modulates immune responses.

- Interferon ฮฒ-1a (Avonex โ IM weekly).
- Interferon ฮฒ-1a (Rebif โ SC three times weekly).
- Interferon ฮฒ-1b (Betaferon โ SC alternate days).
- Interferon ฮฒ-1b (Extavia โ SC alternate days).
๐ Indications
- Relapsingโremitting MS (RRMS): โ relapses and MRI lesion load (~30% reduction).
- Progressive MS: less benefit, limited use.
- Some investigational/adjunct roles in cancer therapy (not routine).
