- Onset of action: 4–7 hours ⏱️

⚙️ Mode of Action
- Non-absorbed cation-exchange polymer that binds potassium in the gastrointestinal tract → increases faecal potassium excretion.
📌 Indication
- Used for the management of hyperkalaemia.
💉 Dose (check BNF for confirmation)
- Starting dose: Patiromer 8.4 g once daily
- Frequency: OD (once daily)
- Route: Oral (PO)
🔄 Interactions
- Separate patiromer from other oral medications by at least 3 hours (risk of binding and reducing absorption).
⚠️ Cautions
- Hypercalcaemia
- Gastrointestinal disease (e.g., bowel ischaemia, obstruction, perforation)
🚫 Contraindications
- Severe bowel obstruction or impaction

- GI upset: abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, flatulence
- Hypomagnesaemia
- Nausea, vomiting
