โ๏ธ Mode of Action
- Polyene antifungal โ binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, causing pore formation and leakage of cell contents.
๐ Indications & Dose
- Oral candidiasis (thrush): Nystatin 100,000 units/ml oral suspension, 1 ml every 6 hours after food for 7 days. Hold in mouth before swallowing for maximum effect.
- Candidal skin infection: Cream/ointment 100,000 units applied QDS (four times daily) for 7 days.

๐ซ Contraindications
- See BNF โ mainly hypersensitivity to Nystatin or excipients.
โ Side Effects
- Not absorbed systemically if given orally.
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea (rare, mild).
- Skin irritation if topical.
