🧬 Pharmacology and role

Microtubule inhibitor used for acute gout and selected inflammatory indications; narrow margin between effective and toxic exposure.

🔎 Before giving

Check renal and liver function, diarrhoea and interacting medicines.
Macrolides (especially clarithromycin), azole antifungals and certain cardiac medicines can markedly increase toxicity.
Document indication-specific course and ensure no accidental extension or doubling.

🚨 Avoidable error / escalation

Severe vomiting, diarrhoea, muscle weakness or blood dyscrasia symptoms require urgent evaluation for toxicity; do not assume the drug is harmless because it is oral.
